Behind the camera with our local videographer
I’ve recently had the pleasure of working with James, an enormously talented local videographer, and wanted to take you behind the camera to learn more about what he offers… Keep reading to uncover his entrepreneurial journey:
How long have you been a videographer/ photographer?
About 5 years now. I recently went full time freelance after slowly building things up. I’ve always loved being creative and it’s a great feeling getting into the flow state of a new photo or video task.
What kind of videos do you film?
A wide range! I like helping people, so I enjoy making videos that have a social cause, or that help promote small & medium sized businesses. For example, I made a promo video for ‘parkrun’ the national charity and ‘Kidical Mass’ the worldwide cycling movement.
I’ve also made music videos for professional musicians, film for events, marketing, engagements, conferences, schools, websites, social media etc. I do a lot of drone aerial footage too.
What kind of photography do you do?
Again, a wide range! Promo, events, actor headshots, websites, marketing, pieces for social media etc.
Why do you enjoy capturing stories on camera?
Making a creative photo/video piece captures a moment & a feeling in a way that it’s sometimes difficult to create with other methods. Done well, combining video with the right music creates a powerful emotional impact.
I love getting to know the people I’m filming for, to enable me to tell their story as best I can. Aside for the actual video/photo production, it’s also a really good way of connecting with people and feeling part of the community in Manchester.
What do you most want people to know about the work you do?
People keep telling me that one of my unique selling points is that I can write & produce the music that goes with my videos; this enables me to combine bespoke music to fit a video. This avoids cheesy stock audio use and can make a very engaging piece; a fairly potent combination of audio and video. I have a background of playing in indie bands and music production, you see!
