Inside The Didsbury Wardrobe: sustainability meets style

Meet the lovely Lizzie, a local entrepreneur who’s set up a clothes rental business so you can be stylish and sustainable at the same time! Read on to learn more about her business…
What made you want to set up The Didsbury Wardrobe?
I love fashion but hate fast fashion. After having a disastrous experience trying to rent an item for a wedding and it fitting terribly, I ended up raiding a mate’s wardrobe and borrowing a dress.
After chatting with a friend we ended up creating the idea of TDW and how there is a market for local clothes rental but there needed to be an option to try on. So it started with a bit of dress swapping between friends and has slowly grown into this business.
How can people rent clothes from you?
Firstly, you can message me with any items of interest. Then we’ll arrange a try on (if wanted). If you’ve decided you’d like to rent an item I’ll put a reserve on the piece and arrange a collection time that suits.

Why is sustainable local fashion so important to you?
I tried to stop buying new in 2020 after watching the documentary “the clothes we wear”. When I realised how many amazing pieces people have sitting in their wardrobes (some unworn with tags) I realised that TDW could actually make an environmental difference. I hope it reduces one off purchases and keeps clothes out of landfills.
What do you most want people to know about your business?
I hope The Didsbury Wardrobe offers a really personal touch. Yes, I rent gorgeous pieces but through the try ons it’s so lovely to play around with peoples styles and get people to try things they haven’t considered. I just love when you see someone find the right piece and watch them brimming with confidence!
