Meet Matt, the man behind Double Knot Studio – an incredible local business which offers 3D visuals. Read on to learn all about his entrepreneurial journey and what he can offer you:

Tell me what Double Knot Studio does?

Double Knot Studio produces photorealistic 3D visuals for designers, architects, developers and private clients. For those who don’t know, a 3D visual is an image that’s digitally created to look as close to a real photograph as possible.

If you’ve had your kitchen designed you may have seen a 3D representation of the design proposal, giving you an idea of what it will look like in your home.

CGI and 3D visualisation services are invaluable in modern design processes, enhancing creativity, efficiency, and communication while reducing costs and risks.

Who can take advantage of your services?

Any type of designer really. Creative companies and individuals, or anyone requiring digital imagery for marketing. It really doesn’t matter what design sector you’re involved with; interiors, product, architecture, it could be anything! You’d be able to reap the benefits of 3D visuals. I have also completed projects for private clients within residential interior design. My visuals were passed onto joiners to use as a guide before they started fitting.

Another previous client was a furniture designer/maker who used photographs (not professionally taken and were very rough and ready!) of their tables for their website. I recreated a number of their tables as CGIs so they could showcase their product range more clearly.

Primarily, my clients are interior designers; but it’s definitely not limited to this. I receive their design proposal in the form of drawings, then I translate them into 3D visuals that showcase all the finishes and furniture. The designers will then present the visuals to their clients which help get the design signed off.

Absolutely anything can be created digitally in 3D and CGIs are incredibly beneficial across many sectors.

How does it help them?

In a nutshell, 3D visualisation allows the consumer to gain a better understanding of the final design proposal. There are, however, a number of benefits to using 3D visualisation:

Enhanced realism: CGI and 3D visualisation create lifelike representations, aiding in better understanding and appreciation of designs before production.

Detail and precision: They offer highly accurate previews with intricate details, textures, and lighting.

Improved communication: Easier for clients to grasp design concepts compared to 2D drawings.

Collaboration: Clients can provide feedback easily, streamlining the design process.

Time and cost savings: Reduces the need for physical prototypes.

Faster revisions and options: Quick implementation of design changes and options speeds up project timelines. Eg. a seat cushions wants to be visualised in 3 different fabrics, this can be done in seconds.

Multi-sector application: 3D visualisation is versatile, used in architecture, automotive, fashion, and entertainment to name a few.

Enhanced marketing: High-quality CGIs are powerful marketing tools that attract and persuade potential customers.

Virtual Reality: These technologies provide immersive experiences that boost customer engagement (Double Knot Studio hasn’t adopted VR yet!)

Error reduction: Detailed visualisations help detect design flaws early, reducing costly errors.

Scenario simulation: Designers can simulate various conditions to ensure optimal design performance. E.g. which direction the sun shines through a window might affect an interior layout

Global collaboration: CGIs allow for easy sharing and consistency in international projects.

Overcoming language barriers: Visual communication simplifies collaboration across different languages and cultures.

Many designers, especially independent or small companies, don’t have the time or capacity to create 3D visuals. They can be time consuming and require advanced knowledge of the software. To convey their design proposals, designers I have worked with rely on moodboards and inspirational images. Whilst these are helpful to present an overall ‘look and feel’ and material/colour palette, their client will more often than not find it difficult to visualise the scheme in the space.
