Description

📅 Saturday 21st March, 11am – 1pm at Sante (M20 2LW)

💬 Join us in Sante’s beautiful function room for a friendly Phonics Masterclass for parents, grandparents, carers… (Aunts, Uncles… and anyone else wanting to be part of the journey!) A relaxed and supportive session designed to help you feel confident supporting children as they learn to read.

📖 Phonics is now the main system used in schools to teach reading, and it’s incredibly helpful when what you’re doing at home aligns with what’s being taught in the classroom. However, since most of us didn’t grow up learning phonics ourselves, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to understand what it’s all about and how you can use it confidently at home.

✨ You’ll learn how phonics helps children connect sounds with letters, blend them together, and build the foundations for fluent, confident reading. The session will cover the key stages of phonics, simple techniques you can use at home, and practical ways to make reading practice enjoyable and stress-free.

📆 We’re hosting this event in March for families of Reception and Year 1 children, as it sits just ahead of the June Phonics Screening Check. It’s the perfect chance to boost your understanding and feel ready to support your child through one of their first literacy milestones.

👩‍🏫 The class is run by Jo, an experienced Literacy Specialist who has worked with local schools (including Didsbury High) and families across Manchester. She’ll guide you through the basics in a clear, approachable way ~ no jargon, no pressure, just clarity and confidence.

📚 This two-hour session is a safe, welcoming space for anyone helping a child to read ~ whether you’re a parent, grandparent, godparent, carer or best friend. You’ll also be signposted to trusted resources from organisations such as BBC Tiny Happy People, The Literacy Trust and Oxford Owl so you can continue learning at your own pace afterwards.

🚃 Getting here: Sante is a short walk from Burton Road tram stop and there’s a bus stop directly outside. Parking in Didsbury can be limited, so walking or public transport is encouraged where possible.

🎫 Tickets: Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended. We are not able to refund tickets the seven days leading up to the event; but will try to do so prior to this. If you contact us within 48 hours of the event, we will offer you the option to transfer the ticket to another event.
