Get to know your host: Zara!

Meet Zara, one of the amazing event hosts who will be looking after you at Singles Nights around Manchester. She has her own business, offering reiki at Self Studio, and wellbeing is an important focus for her when running events…

Tell me a little about your training in reiki…

I found my amazing teacher Gouri (@lalkitherapy) in 2021 when I was searching for reiki courses. I went to meet her at The Divine Hub in Didsbury and had an amazing reiki session with her.

I knew instantly that I wanted to learn reiki with her. I did my Reiki Level 1 and Reiki Level 2 over the span of a couple of years. It was the most amazing journey (and still is – I’m always learning with reiki) and it has truly changed my life.

Why is wellbeing so important to you?

In today’s culture of productivity, focusing on our wellbeing is so important as it helps us to find ways to slow down, focus on the present moment and find moments of joy in daily life.

Implementing wellbeing practices into our daily lives can help us to deepen our connection to ourselves, others and the world around us. It also increases our confidence to face new challenges and build a loving support system from within.

How do you help look after people’s wellbeing as an event host?

Here are  few of the ways I help look after people’s wellbeing on the night:

– Put out water on the tables so people keep themselves hydrated throughout the evening.

– Greeting people at the door so they know a familiar face. If someone is nervous, I make sure that they know they can take a break at anytime and can always come and talk to me.

– Keep an eye on tables to make sure people look comfortable and happy. I like to do check ins every now and again to make sure everyone’s having a good time.

Is there any advice you’d offer, as to how people can look after their own wellbeing around these events?

– If you’re feeling a bit anxious, taking regular breaks can help. Nipping to the loo, getting some air outside etc.

– Take some time (even if it’s for a couple of minutes) to look after your wellbeing before an event. Some examples could be eating within plenty of time before the event, taking some deep breaths, meditating or resting beforehand. Also take some time to decompress after the event.

– I’d also recommend planning the route you’ll be taking to and from an event so you know how much time you’ll need to get there and also share your location with friends/ family as you travel.
